Setting Up a Google Adsense Channel

If you are here to stay and planning on making a lot of money writing or doing other things for revenue sharing then you will need a Google Adsense account. Google Adsense is really reliable for paying its publishers as long as they abide by the rules, however if you have several sites that are bringing in the money then you could quickly find yourself saying, "Um...where did that come from?" as you look at your first pennies, or even your dollars. You don't have to do that though. You can set up channels and then keep track of how much money you are making from which sites and even from which articles if you wish.

Custom Channels
Custom channels are best to be created when you design your own ads and place them on your own site. However there are a few revenue sharing sites that ask you to create a custom channel and give them the channel code. You can do this easily and quickly. If you are creating your own ads then there is an option to add custom channels during this process. This works, or you can set them up and make it even easier to add them to your ads.

To Set Up a Custom Channel
1. You have to have a Google Adsense account and log into it. You will be brought to the front page which is usually set up as a daily report.
2. At the very top of the page you will find four tabs. The first is "Reports" and is the one that you are already on. The second is "Adsense Setup" which you will need to click.
3. Underneath the "Adsense Setup" tab you will see a blue bar. This has a list of link options. The fourth link on the menu bar is "Channels". You will need to click this.
4. Now you are on the custom channels page. This page has three links that will offer you more information if you need it. Then you will see three tabs that say "Adsense for Content", "Adsense for Search", and "Referrals". You can set up channels for each of these items. Beneath the tabs you will see two links and finally an Actions box with a link next to it that says "Add New Custom Channels". You will need to click this.
5. There will be a box which will allow you to add a title for your custom channel. Finish by clicking "Add Channel".
6. You can then be done or add more custom channels as you choose.

URL Channels
For many websites, especially those that you revenue share with it is easier to set up URL channels. You can do this using the URL from the site and track all of the ad impressions and clicks that you are receiving from the whole site or you can do this with a specific article URL and find out how much you are making with that specific article. This can help you learn a lot about the sites you work with and which ones get the most traffic naturally.

To Set Up a URL Channel
Under these tabs you will find two links "Custom Channels" and "URL Channels". You will want to click on the second one "URL Channels".
5. Now you will see the Actions box and then "Add New URL Channels" link. Click this.
6. You can then add a URL to each line and add as many URL's as you want. You can add the URL for the entire site, or for a specific article.
7. Finish by clicking "Add Channels".

Google allows you to have 200 different channels to keep track of where your money is coming from. This can be an excellent way to figure out where you are doing the best and where you should be concentrating your efforts. You can also make decisions about ad placement and type (on your own sites). With a little work, Google Adsense could be the perfect way to keep track of how you are making money with their program!
